Issued to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and struck in solid 22 carat Gold, the traditional purity of all gold sovereign coins, the official Battle of Britain Gold quarter sovereign takes its design cue from the ‘Wings for Victory’ created by an eminent British sculptor William McMillan during World War II.  The campaign encouraged civilians to save their money in war bonds and savings certificates to raise funds for Britain to build more aircraft.

Flown in a wartime Spitfire
On 15th September 2015, to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, a wartime Spitfire took off from RAF Biggin Hill with a unique cargo on board – a cache of gold sovereigns including this quarter sovereign. This gold coin therefore not only commemorates a crucial moment in history, they are actually part of history!

Edition Limit just 850
The cramped conditions of the Spitfire greatly restricted the number of gold sovereigns which could be flown. The consequence being an astonishingly low edition limit of just 850 gold quarter sovereigns worldwide.
