This year, we celebrate the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. When the Allies defeated Nazi Germany on 8 May 1945, celebrations erupted throughout the western world. More than one million people celebrated in the streets throughout Great Britain to mark the end of the European involvement in the war. In London, crowds massed in Trafalgar Square and up the Mall to Buckingham Palace, where King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, accompanied by Prime Minister Winston Churchill, appeared on the balcony of the palace before the cheering crowds.

Winston Churchill’s time as prime minister of Britain during the Second World War will forever have its mark in history. His tireless devotion and bulldog determination led Britain through her darkest hour. Whilst on the balcony during the celebrations of VE Day, Churchill declared to the cheering crowds “This is your victory!” The crowd roared in reply, No, it is yours! – A true testament of a nation indebted to their great leader.

The ‘Countdown to VE Day’ Collection is an eternal tribute to the events that ultimately led to the Allie’s victory 75 years ago. This remarkable collection pays homage to:

THE DEFINING MOMENTS OF WWII

Issued in official partnership with the Merchant Navy Association, The Road to Victory Commemorative Coin Collection is a fitting tribute to the heroic actions of the Allied Forces. Through a series of photographic coins, this set marks the defining moments which led Britain and the Allies to victory. These wartime photographs have been specially selected by curators from the Imperial War Museums.

THE GREATEST BRITON

The ‘WE SHALL FIGHT ON THE BEACHES’ and ‘NEVER WAS SO MUCH OWED BY SO MANY TO SO FEWCommemorative Coins honour the man who steered Britain through her darkest days. Each coin commemorates one of his unforgettable and inspirational speeches as Prime Minister. Accompanying the coins is a detailed timeline of the events leading up to and after Churchill stepped up to Prime Minister on May 10th 1940.

The Second World War would go down in history as the largest and bloodiest conflict the world had ever seen. Technological advances would see it deemed the most destructive war in human history. However, despite all this, British morale never ceased to amaze the world, and the tireless determination of the British and Allied Troops resulted in their victory.
