This original 1905 Finnish 10 Markkaa was part of the famous Nazi Hoard. During WWII in 1940, the central bank of Norway was responsible for storing the entire Norwegian gold reserves, as well as those of the rest of Scandinavia. April 1940 saw Nazi Germany launch an unprovoked attack on Norway with the intention of stealing the gold reserves for the advancement of the Nazi regime. Quick thinking by the Norwegians and with the help of the British Royal Navy allowed the gold to be quickly loaded onto waiting British battleships, preventing the Nazis from obtaining the gold and sending it on a journey  around the world to safety. he gold was shipped from Norway to Britain, on to Canada and finally made its way home in the late 80s, over 40 years later.
