Designed by the acclaimed British sculptor Paul Day, and produced in partnership with the In Flanders Fields Museum, the coin has been struck in tribute to those who fought and died to protect our freedoms and way of life during the First World War.

Paul Day’s major London sculptures include ‘The Meeting Place’ at St Pancras Station, ‘ The Battle of Britain Monument’ on the Victoria Embankment and ‘The Iraq and Afghanistan Memorial’ at the Victoria Embankment Gardens.

The inscription that surrounds his depiction of a soldier, head bowed in respect as he remembers a fallen comrade, is taken from the poem ‘For the Fallen’ by Laurence Binyon. For over a century Binyon’s timeless words have been spoken with reverence at ceremonies to honour the fallen and give thanks for their sacrifice.

To make your ‘At the going down of the sun’ coin even more special, an individual number has been laser etched on the edge, making it unique.  It is supplied with a certificate of authenticity and comes in an illustrated presentation folder where you can store it and keep it safe.

Rest assured that you have no further commitments and your purchase is protected by The London Mint Office 14 day “no quibble” guarantee. You have no further obligations.
