Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II has seen a remarkable 68 years as monarch of the British Empire and Head of the Commonwealth, surpassing any monarch before her including her great-great grandmother, Queen Victoria. During this illustrious reign, Her Majesty has achieved, not only the record of the longest reigning monarch but also the record for the most countries to depict her portrait on their coinage.

Since her coronation in 1953, Queen Elizabeth has been depicted on coins up until and after decimalisation in 1971, meaning that her portrait graced the final issues of pre-decimal coins and also the first post decimal coins and the first fully pictorial bank note series issued by The Bank of England.

First and last editions are always highly sought after from collectors all over the world!

To commemorate the Queen’s record breaking reign and in tribute to her coins and bank notes, past and present, The London Mint Office presents The Great British Coins and Bank Note Set.

This beautiful set brings together not just coins and bank notes but the past and present of British currency and showcases this through The Changing Face of British Coinage – Queen Elizabeth II Pre-decimal Edition and The Great British Icons UK Bank Note Collection.

Each of the nine coins in this collection have one thing in common: they are the last of their kind – the final designs ever struck by The Royal Mint prior to them being phased out. To enhance these classic designs, each of these coins has been lavishly layered with pure 24-carat gold and the main details brilliantly decorated in full colour with the colours of our nation’s flag; red, white and blue, to create the ultimate edition for your collection.

The Great British Icons UK Bank Note Collection

In 1971 the biggest change in Britain’s currency for more than a thousand years took place when the system of pounds, shillings and pence made way for a decimal system that divided the pound into 100 new pence.

All previous currency was withdrawn and the Bank of England issued the bank note system that we still use today. Over the years we have seen many famous faces as chosen by the Bank of England on everyday British legal tender bank notes. Each person who has been commemorated on these bank notes has influenced Britain and how the British population live today.

In commemoration of the first editions of the first fully pictorial bank note series, for the first time ever, you can now own these bank notes that feature faces of great British icons that have been with you for a lifetime – immortalized forever in pure 24-carat Gold.

The set includes gold reproductions of the first post-decimal £1, £5, £10, £20 and £50 issued by The Bank the England. The £1 bank note holds extra significance as this was the first and last bank note of its kind to ever be issued!

The notes depict icons such as Sir Isaac Newton, the Duke of Wellington, Florence Nightingale, William Shakespeare and Sir Christopher Wren with Queen Elizabeth always on the opposite side. Before this bank note series was issued, no one other than the monarch has ever featured on a UK bank note. Each person who has been commemorated has influenced Britain and how the British population live today.

The Great British Icons UK Bank Note Collection comes complete with a solid 9-carat Gold completer coin that features a reimagining of The Bank of England’s emblem which has featured on every bank note since 1971.

Rest assured that you have no further commitments and your purchase is protected by The London Mint Office 14 day “no quibble” guarantee. You have no further obligations.
