The VE Day Chronicle The People Gold Layered Coin
On May 8th 1945, people around the world were united in celebrating Victory in Europe Day. In Great Britain, every British newspaper proudly proclaimed the same message, Victory, the war in Europe was over.
The design of this unique commemorative coin is a tribute to how the people of our nation joined together in the streets and celebrated the news of Victory in Europe. The newspaper features the striking headline 'THIS WAS THEIR FINEST DAY' and shows how a crown of 50,000 packed Whitehall, all cheering for Prime Minister Winston Churchill as he emerged from Downing Street. The celebrations had well and truly began. Either side of the printed area of the coin, we see the letters 'V' and 'E' and then the inscription 'VICTORY' featured on the ribbon below.
As you know, this fantastic coin is a very special tribute to the day the war ended in Europe and for the first time ever it has been beautifully layered in pure 24-carat Fairmined Gold - gold to be proud of.
