Obverse: The ingot obverse features the striking statement ‘Your Country Needs You’ encircled by the Union Jack. Below this are two logos – the official logo of the Imperial War Museum and their official First World War Centenary logo.

The reverse features the ‘Women of Britain Say Go’ recruitment poster which was produced by artist E J Kealey in 1915. This now iconic poster is indicative of the increasingly sophisticated and commercialised strategies employed by recruiters to encourage British men to enlist. During the First World War the majority of British Army recruiting posters were conceived not by government officials but by commercial advertising and printing companies. This emotive poster appeals to Britain’s female population to encourage more men to join the army, whilst depicting the same women and children as vulnerable and needing protection.
