The photograph featured on the coin’s left side shows Princess Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth II) training as a mechanic in the Second World War. Her Majesty is the only British Royal Family member to have served in the Second World War. She is a direct link back to one of the most devastating times in British history and regardless of status stepped up to fight for her country.

The photograph on the right side of the coin shows Queen Elizabeth II at the Cenotaph for a wreath laying ceremony during the Remembrance Sunday. Even up until her passing, she honoured those who lost their lives in the war, never forgetting the great sacrifice that they made for their country, when she herself was also a veteran of the war and witnessed the loss and grief of a nation first-hand.

The photographs are divided by a sceptre entwined with sprigs of oak inspired by the House of Winsor Crest, with St Edward’s crown, the official coronation crown featured at both ends and the shield of the Royal Coat of Arms in the centre. The inscription reads ‘I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong’ taken from Princess Elizabeth’s speech in 1947 as she dedicated her life to the service of the Commonwealth.
