2018 is a huge year in British Commemorations with Brits celebrating 100 years of the RAF, 100 years since the end of The First World War and 75 years since the Dambusters Raid – it is certainly a year to remember. To celebrate 75 years since Operation Chastise, a Mission Pack has been produced containing blueprints, photographs, confidential plans for the bouncing bomb, and other mission related items. A limited edition £1 coin has also been struck to commemorate this anniversary.

On Saturday 16th June The London Mint Office were privileged to be invited to attend ‘Wartime Bridgend’ hosted by Bridgend Council. The event transported its attendees back to War Time Bridgend with an array of stalls, wartime vehicles and lookalikes including Sir Winston Churchill. The event also had an appearance from a full size replica of a WW1 Bristol Scout Plane.

During the ceremony hosted by Mayor of Bridgend Paul Warren, Simon Weston CBE Military Ambassador for The London Mint Office presented the Mayor with the Operation Chastise 75th Anniversary Commemorative Coin and Mission Pack which will be displayed at Bridgend Carnegie House Museum.
